A Principal of Troutman Sanders Strategies, Bill founded and continues to lead the North Carolina office. He is also a partner in the Troutman Sanders LLP law firm. A business lawyer and consultant, his work focuses on providing key procurement, legislative, regulatory, and political advice and advocacy to individuals, corporations, and associations. Business development in the government and institutional sales marketplaces is a core focus. Bill works with clients managing projects across the country and abroad, with a considerable focus in the pacific northwest and mountain west, in addition to the east and southeast.
Bill has served as president of the North Carolina Professional Lobbyist Association and also on its Board and Executive Committee. Like Joe and Daniel, Bill is routinely named to the “Most Influential Lobbyists” list compiled by the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research. Bill continues to serve the community through leadership in numerous civic, professional, and charitable organizations, including past service on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Chamber, and current appointments to the Wake Forest University College Board of Visitors and the UNC Law Foundation.
Prior to joining Troutman Sanders Strategies, Bill chaired the public policy practice in North Carolina at a large international law firm. He also served as the Director of Governmental Affairs for the North Carolina Bar Association. Prior to the Bar Association, Bill was in private practice in Georgia and North Carolina. Bill also led the Raleigh office of Troutman Sanders LLP as Managing Partner from 2013-2015. A native Charlottean, he holds a B.A. cum laude from Wake Forest University and a J.D. from the University of North Carolina.
